Sugarlands Visitor center
The Sugarlands Visitor Center is an excellent and informative stop to make when visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park area of Tennessee. It is located on the north main entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, two miles south of Gatlinburg on U.S. 441/Newfound Gap Road.
If you are heading to Alum Cave, Mount LeConte, Newfound Gap, The Chimney's, Elkmont, Laurel Falls, Metcalf Bottoms or Cades Cove, the Sugarlands Visitors Center is right on your way.
You can pick up detailed maps of the park, purchase guides, books with great information, postcards, and even videos, tapes, DVD's and CD's. The twenty-minute video shows a good look of the extensive diversity of animal and plant life the Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers. There are also park rangers who give presentations, and are available to answer any of your questions.
One very interesting thing to see is the great display of stuffed and mounted animals in the center. Visitors can take a peek at a flying squirrel, a red fox, and even a bear cub, along with other animals that are all native in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Sugarlands Visitors Center offers accessible parking spaces, pay phones, restrooms and water fountains along with soda and water vending machines Wheelchairs are also available. The book store, information desk, and audiovisual room are all on one level for your convenience as well. For visitors that are hearing impaired, the park video is captioned for the audience.
Simply anything you may need to learn about the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Sugarlands Visitor Center can help inform you! The Sugarlands Visitors Center also serves as a Back Country Permit Station.
